Innovations in the public sector can be defined as the implementation of new concepts related to technical, policy, service, organizational and other areas that result in some change in the functioning in the public sector. Whenever any new way of doing things is created and it is implemented in the public sector, it always aims to improve the efficiency of the public sector. The main focus of these innovations remains of facilitating the advantages to the community and the society so that the policies and initiatives can be made in such a manner that it helps the common citizen.

The innovations in the public sectors have a greater impact on the social lives as when the new method is implemented, the efficiency and productivity of the public sector improve. The sector starts utilizing the resources in a more efficient manner and reducing wastage. The public sector uses these innovations to facilitate greater services to the community members. With the improved method of doing things and new innovations, the ability to do things with more efficiency improves the public sector. More social welfare policies are developed and implemented. New methods ensure that the implementation is hassle-free and any waste can be removed in order to facilitate the benefits to the common individual. The main goal of the innovation in the public sector is not to earn profit but to convert the public sector into an efficient machine facilitating greater welfare to its members. These innovations can also help in controlling the chances of corruption in the public sector as many things are removed that lacks efficiency and policies and procedures are made simple and automated leaving almost no space for corrupt practices
