10 (a) Titration in which the concentration of an analyte is determined by reacting it with excess reagent whose concentration is known is called as back titration.

For example solution of unknown concentration of CaCO3 is titrated with known volume and concentration of HCL solution. After the completion of reaction with the analyte, the resulting solution containing excess HCl solution is then tirades with known volume and concentration of NaOH solution.

(b) Eventhough magnesium hydroxide have side effects of causing Diarrhoea, it is considered to be best antacid as it’s action is fast.

Mg(OH)2 + 2HCL gives 2H2O + MgCl2

Al(OH)3 + 3HCL gives AlCl3 + 3H2O

c) 0.500g of TUMS neutralises more acid because it contains good amount of calcium carbonate in it. Whereas in Equate in 0.500g of the tablet, the calcium carbonate content is less.
