Discuss the two major differences between traditional hazards (e.g., hurricanes, floods, tornadoes, earthquakes, and hazardous materials incidents) and the new hazards associated with terrorism.
Ans- Traditional hazards are nature caused and are beyond human control. These hazards are generally related to climate change . Example of natural hazards are hurricanes, floods, tornadoes, earthquakes, and hazardous materials incidents like natural emission of radioactive material. For e.g. in particular season certain areas of USA get severally affected by hurricanes. While new types of hazards associated with terrorism are human cauesd , means it is completely coordinated and controlled by human being. Means gravity, intensity of this particular hazards all are in conspirator's ( particular human being's) hand. For e.g. Terrorist related hazards like gas attack on Tokyo's subway, 9/11 attack on the world trade center etc.
Second, in traditional hazards generally people have time for their protection. Most of the traditional hazards can be forecasted using several techniques. Means traditional hazards are lesser fatal for human being, due to such hazards there can be loss of property less or huge. For e.g. Before coming of hurricane government declare high alert in respected areas/ states, so local residents manage accordingly or they are evacuated from that places. While in new hazards associated with terrorism people are not aware of it as it happen all of sudden. So, this create panic, and rampant situation and prove more fatal in comparison to the traditional hazards.
So, these are two differences between traditional hazards and new hazards related with terrorism.
