Explain how the utilitarian might take into consideration the
identities of the people on the tracks: a) a medical researcher; b)
a criminal; c) a loved one.
Utilitarian Ethics suggests that any act which increases utility or benefit to maximum number of people and reduce any harm would be considered ethical. A medical researcher strives hard to find a solution or a medicine which would help many people from illness, so, his act is ethical. A criminal would seek to harm many people and there is no benefit at all, so his act is unethical. A loved one increases happiness to people around them and they also do not seek to harm anyone, thus a loved one is also an ethical person.
