Even though we’ve talked about digital security policies in this lesson quite a bit, a lot of users choose to just ignore security policies and many network vulnerability issues can later be traced back to users who don’t follow security policies. Why do you think users sometimes ignore security policy requirements? Can you think of an example where you came across a situation like that?
Users sometimes ignore security policy because :
i) People follow the term that it has not happened to me so it will not happen. Most of the people ignore security policy because they feel they will not be attacked by any cyber attack or malware attacks.
ii) Most of the people risk their security for downloading any file. Most of the malware and security issues people face are due to downloading files from unknown resources.
iii) People assume that one fine day their computer will be hacked by a hacker due to some glitch. But the fact is your device is consistently being monitored and attacked so that they can create a breach to inject virus into your system
One of common example of this is when a multinational company was attacked by ransomware attack. An emoloyee was working remotely and due to low security policy followed by him the attacker breached into the system and injected malware. This caused harm not only to the employee but caused the organisation a huge amount of money. If the company would have had followed good security policy for employees working remotely then they would not have been in such loss.
