The formula for this decay is Mt = M0 e-kt

  1. M is the mass of litter at a certain time = 80 days
  2. M0 is the initial mass of litter =100 (for percentage of remaining leaf litter)
  3. e is the base of the natural logarithm;
  4. k is the decomposition constant = 0.005
  5. t is the amount of time passed since the initial measurement 80days

Leaf weight after 80 days

Mt = M0 e-kt

Mt= 100 (e-0.005x80)

Mt = 100(e-0.4)

Mt= 100 x  0.67

Mt= 67

Percentage of remaining leaf litter = 67/100 x 100

=67%
