Microtubules are the proteins which are part of cytoskeletal elements. They are made up of alpha and beta tubulin subunits. They are hollow cylindrical rods. They are mainly involved in following functions-

1. They are mechanical support system in the cell and hold organelles

2. They are involved in skeletal muscle contraction

3. They help in cargo transport through vesicles

4. They are involved in chromosomal segregation during cell division
