It has been said that “justice is blind”-that the law treats everyone as equal, whether rich or poor, black or white, young or old. If that’s true, the weak can certainly see the law as their protector. However, some people maintain that the law is actually the tool of the rich and mighty.
1/ Reflect on your own observations of the law. In a well-organized essay, identify one situation, discuss its effects, and explain how it supports, or doesn’t support, the quotation above.
It is true that the law favours the rich. Law makers created the law with good intentions that it should be equal to everyone, however, as time passed, the people began to misuse it. More the power and money, more the law turns in favour to them. "Law is blind" phrase now has the meaning that law is blind to the ill doings of the rich.
In a South Asian country, when one of the famous actor rash drived while drunk and killed few homeless people, the law was unable to do justice. The case prolonged for years. The actor was able to hire top notch lawyers and easily escape from the case, saying that the car was driven by his driver and not him. Actors with their political connections and huge money are capable of escaping from cases easily somehow. It was said that there were eye witnesses for the incident, however the actor was declared innocent in the case.
There are many instances like the one above. These instances show that corruption is deep rooted in the system and people with their influence can buy anyone and twist and turn the events in their favour. It is ironical that poor have to struggle for justice for years, even though the truth is on their side. Nowadays, power and money decides whether justice will be served or not.
