Answer #1

Performance appraisal basically refers to the assessement of emloyee's work.It refers to a method whereby corporates and other firms assess how effectively their employees are working in order to achieve the set goals. It is basically considered as the report card of employee whereby managers keep an eye on working of a person in an organisation.

Performance appraisals are often described as necessary but not really objective as it can be advantageous as well as disadvantageous to some extent.

  • Pros of Performance Appraisals are-

1.Necessary for Feedback- Employees often await for their recognition in the organisation.By giving a feedback on how they performed could prove to be a helpful tool for achieveing the assigned targets.

2.Motivation-It helps a person to feel motivated when they know they are be valued and their presence adds up to the advantage of the organisation. It is a helpful tool for employees to work efficiently.

  • Cons of performance appraisal- There are certain factors that oppose this tool.

1.Time Consuming- For evaluating each and every employee of the organisation ,managers need time and effort. This would prove to be hectic and time consuming and would distract the managers from achieving their goals.

2.Stressful Workplace- It can create a stressful workplace for employees as managers expectations would be high.Failure to achieve the desired target would lead to losing all hopes by people.

Thus ,Performance appraisal can be a great tool but not the only tool for achieving targets of the organisation.
