Discuss how sexual disorders included in the DSM-5 map onto the human sexual response cycle.
Follow the step:
1) Claim - a one to two sentence thesis responding to the prompt.
2) Support - from an external source (i.e. not your textbook) defending your thesis. At least three discrete ideas or examples supporting your claim written in your own words.
3) Interpretation - 3-5 sentences drawing conclusions based on the support you provide.
1. Claim - Premature ejaculation is one that clearly can be categorized under the orgasmic phase of the human sexual response cycle.
2. Support - The fact that premature ejaculations make orgasmic
phase come before the excitement phase ruining the sexual
experience and making premature ejaculation suitable to be called
as a sexual disorder. The second fact is that etiological factors
belonging to immediate ones such as fear concerning performance and
adoption of a spectator role leading to lack of focus are found
responsible for premature ejaculation also supports the DSM5
categorization. The third point is concerning social and sexual
history factors such as the history of hurried sex, lack of sexual
knowledge, etc that too ruins the sexual experience leading to
premature ejaculation.
3. Interpretation.- From the above evidence, it can be understood
that premature ejaculation is one that is closely associated with
the human sexual cycle. Many couples face negative sexual
experience primarily due to the overriding of climax response
before the preceding two such as the desire phase and excitement
phase. A normal sexual experience happens when the human sexual
response cycle happens in a sequential manner such as the desire
phase, excitement phase, orgasmic phase, and resolution phase. When
these phases override one another, then the condition becomes a
disorder and hence is well classified under DSM5.
