This is an Individual Assignment.

Sociotechnical systems theory helps us to see that both technology and people must be considered in relationships and at work. Organizations need to recognize that if strong, healthy work relationships are to be built and maintained, development of emotional intelligence competencies in their people is critical. This is especially important considering the argument that the rise of technology leads to the decline of face-to-face interpersonal experiences and skills.

1. Make a list of the five to eight Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) that you rely on the most in order of importance to your day-to-day functioning.

My answer:

   1. Email

   2. iPhone

   3. iPad

   4. Television

   5. Laptop/computer

   6. Social Media ( Youtube, Facebook )

   7. Internet

   8. Texting

2. Identify three ways that each ICT helps promote emotional intelligence.

3. Next, make a list of three ways that each of those same ICTs hinder or inhibit emotional intelligence. As you make your lists, consider the following:

What value does this communication technology add to my life?

  • If I were not using this ICT, how else could I send and receive information.

  • What can I do to improve self-awareness and relationship management through ICTs?

  • What do I gain in interpersonal communication from ICTs and what do I lose?

Outside research is not necessary; however, if you cite from any source other than the textbook, a citation must be noted in the response along with reference(s).

Develop your answers in a Word/PDF document and submit via the submission link.

2.

Whats.App

  • It helps me communicate with my family and friends that reside in other countries

G.mail

  • I can keep in touch with my professors and classmates
  • Share my ideas with my teammates
  • Helps me stay up to date with what is going on around the world, through news emails

Blackboad

  • I can keep track of my grades
  • Lets me build my skills with new information that is provided by the professors
  • I’m also able to share my ideas with all students in my class.

You.Tube

  • Helps me understand myself better through informational videos
  • It helps me stay positive
  • Watching other people succeed, increases my motivation to succeed as well

Snapchat

  • Helps me communicate with friends through pictures and videos.
  • Helps me understand other people’s emotions and way of living
  • I can share information through videos and pictures

3.

Whats.App

  • If I didn’t have this ICT, I would talk to my family through email.
  • I can gather group meetings through this app, to communicate my opinions.
  • I can lose the confidence to talk to people in a face-to-face environment.

G.mail

  • I would have to communicate my information throughout face-to-face meetings or send out letters to people’s homes.
  • I won’t be able to build a personal bond as effectively.
  • The same concept as Whats.App applies to this ICT, my confidence to talk to people face to face can erode over time, this can potentially impact how I share my ideas in this face-to-face setting.

Blackboard

  • If Blackboard would not exist, it pretty much would be impossible to run an online course. In order to study and communicate with my professors, I would have to study in campus.
  • I lose hands on experience with certain classes, as well as losing the interaction with other students among my field of study.
  • I have gotten to meet a lot of students that reside in different parts of the country and sometimes the world.

You.Tube

  • Learning new technology and new concepts would take much more time. Using videos as a source for conveying information and sharing ideas is a lot more conventional than reading a book. Videos offer a visual aid, thus making it easier for people to learn. It’s free, that’s the best part.
  • It offers an extensive amount of information about different topics, at any time and any day. I can learn new techniques that teach me how to improve my self-awareness.
  • By watching different people talk about the same topic, I can learn different techniques and adjust them accordingly.

Snapchat

  • Snapchat allows me to snap a quick video or picture and share with a certain group of friends or share it to all. Doing this without the app would take a lot more time, I would instead record a video, look for the contacts, and then send it. This app makes it more convenient to share videos, and pictures.
  • I’m allowing friends to take a glimpse of life through quick videos, and photos. It’s the same for me, it allows me to know what people are doing and how they feel on different days.
  • There are times where I am shy to share my opinions face-to-face, so this is the app where it makes it less scary to share my thoughts to friends.
