The Sinulog Santo Nino festival as it is called is part of the annual Catholic celebrations in the city of Cebu. It’s celebrated on the third Sunday of January every year. It’s one of the most important and popular festivals in the whole of Philippines which attracts millions of people from all over the country. The name suggests the forward and backward movement of the dance while the literal meaning refers to the flow of the water current and it is also related to infant Jesus in the Christian version. It’s not just a religious festival but also a cultural festival that is also considered as street festival as people would enjoy it all through the night before and on the day of the celebration. It’s also celebrated in other cities in the country while the modality and style differ from city to city. Although the tradition was found in Pilipino culture even before the arrival of the Europeans, in which they used other idols of their traditional gods, after the arrival of the Europeans, the idols changed to Christian statues.
