There are many different types of interviews that can be conducted, what are the pro's and con's to conducting interviews?

Interview is essentially a conversation between interviewer and interviewee. It is a professional and structured conversation where interviewer asks questions and interviewee comes up with answers to it. Interviews are mainly conducted inorder to assess the participants qualities and capabilities for recruitment purpose.

Thereare different types of interviews. Some of the prominent ones are listed below.

  • Face to face interview (This is a direct interview where both interviewer and interviewee is physically present at the interview table)
  • Telephonic interview (the medium of interview is telephone. Usually this is conducted when there are large number of applicants or the applicant is far away from the office)
  • Video interview ( When a video application is used as a medium of conducting interview. Nowadays, these types of interviews are getting more acceptance, due to the ease of conducting interviews, especially in the times of Covid-19.)
  • Group interview ( when there are more than one interviewee is interviewed at the same time. This is done inorder to assess the competitiveness and stress management of the participants)
  • Panel interview ( when there are two or more interviewers in the room. This is also called stress interview, because interviewers will shoot questions one after another to assess the confidence and stress management of the participant)

  • The major advantage of conducting interview is getting a perspective of participants
  • Assessment of capabilities
  • Assessment of emotional intelligence
  • Stress management of participants can be evaluated
  • Oppertunity to test the skills

The cones of conducting interviews

  • Time consuming
  • It can impact the candidate
  • Not cost effective
