6) (a)
Humidity ratio :
Humidity ratio is the ratio of weight of moisture to the weight of dry air in the air–vapor mixture.
Relative Humidity :
Relative humidity (RH) is the humidity ratio of the air expressed as a percent of the total saturation point for that specific temperature.
Difference Between Relative Humidity and Humidity Ratio :
Simply put, the more water vapor is in the air, the higher the humidity. The Humidity Ratio is how much ‘air’ is in the air versus the amount of water. Relative Humidity on the other hand, takes the humidity ratio, and includes the air temperature, and the maximum amount of water the air can hold, and displays it as a percentage.
6) (b)
Dehumidification:
The process in which the moisture or water vapor or the humidity is removed from the air keeping its dry bulb (DB) temperature constant is called as the dehumidification process.
Types of Dehumidification
There are currently four industry accepted types of
dehumidification.
1. Compression of the air
2. Liquid sorption
3. Solid sorption (desiccant)
4. Condensation-based (Refrigerant)
In practicality, from the standpoint of the corrosion control and product protection industries, only the condensation based (refrigerant) and the solid sorption/desiccant types are applicable.
Also Condensation dehumidification is done normally and it is more economical and effective.
