1. Phloem is a conducting tissue in the vascular plants. This tissue transports organic materials like sugars, from the sites of their synthesis to the sites of their use or storage. This transport plays an important role in the plant life as if the plant produces excess organic matter( carbohydrates) they are transported for storage for the time when plant cannot produce it or to the sites of seed production, etc.
2.
SOURCE : Source are the tissues where the phloem tissue gets loaded with the material it carries (organic molecules) and sink are the tissues wher it is unloaded.
The green parts of the plant(leaves) which synthesis the organic molecules like glucose and then sugar from it are the source and the tissues where these material are used (roots, cannot prepare food as they lack chlorophyll and are not exposed to light) act as sink like the storage organs(fruits).
Source of nitrogen are the roots which absorb nitrates front the soil and sink of nitrogen are the tissues which store amino acids like the protein rich seeds.
3. Leaves can act as both source and sink for photosynthate as :
When photosynthesis occurs in plants during day times and during summers leaves are the sources of dugars because they synthesis sugars which sre transported to other tissues by phloem, where as leaves can act as sink when there is no photosynthesis as during night where respiration is going but no photosynthesis.
Explain what types compounds get transported in the phloem and why Explain the concept of sources...
1. Explain the concept of the "founder effect" as explained by Jared Diamond. Illustrate the concept with an example from Diamond's article and explain why, for many traits, the impact of the founder effect may be lessened over time. 2. Define what is meant by scientific "theory" versus a fact. Briefly, how do scientific theories differ from religious theories? In what way is evolution a "fact" and in what way is it a theory? 3. Define"adaptation" illustrating your answer with...
What are the different types of fats ? Briefly explain the different types of fats and give dietary examples of each types Do not worry about the chemical structures. I do not expect you to focus on the chemical structures. It is important to know that the differences in their structures affect how they function in the body and how they affect health. 2 What are the health effects of consuming excessive fats?
Please help me fully answer and understand each part of this question. Thank you What types of organisms did you find have thermogenic organs/tissues, list a few examples? Did you find a reference for these processes in plants and animals? Please include at least one example from these plants and the function of those tissues. In relation to animals, are thermogenic tissues associated with different individuals or different times of development of individuals in a population of organisms? Can you...

Define and provide examples of the following concepts: Environment, ecosystem, abiotic and biotic factors, natural and experimental boundaries, flows of matter and energy. Explain how the boundaries of an ecosystem may differ from those like national parks, county, state or national borders. Explain how natural features of the landscape (ex: a watershed) or biological phenomena (ex: a species range) can be used to define the boundaries of an ecosystem. Explain how ecosystems vary in size and scale, and how some...
