Would you rather be a Feared or Respected Leader? List 5 Pros and 5 Cons for each. Then, summarize which you feel is the better Leadership Style and Defend it (Why) with Hard Rationale.

There can be two types of leaders one is feard while the other one is respectable. Both of these can be defined t have the below-mentioned traits=

Fear: This type of leadership results in disliking, the followers will not be comfortable in telling the facts and truths, in fact, they will be to hide many things and avoid sharing the real thinking and ideas as they may fear of being insulted.

Pros=

  • Followers-only communicate the things which they need to so over communication is avoided
  • Proper hierarchy and status is maintained between the followers and leaders
  • Things are taken seriously by the followers
  • Fear may result in improved performance
  • Deadlines and targets are tried to be accomplished

Cons=

  • Lack of confidence between leaders and followers
  • Chances of making the ill-informed decision due to the absence of counter views by the followers
  • Followers tend to avoid the leader
  • Interpersonal relations may hamper resulting in weak bonding
  • Fear may cause mental stress among the followers

Respect: In this type of leadership the followers have trust and respect in the leader. They are keener to express their view and treat the leader as an intelligent and wise person. They do not hide anything from the leaders

Pros=

Results in better productivity of the manpower

Informed decision making

Better interpersonal relation between followers and leaders

The followers respect and treat well their leaders

Expression of opinion opens the new ways of innovation

Cons=

Over interaction may result in a breach of hierarchy

The followers can take the leaders on grant

Some instructions of the leaders may not be taken seriously

Indiscipline can result

Maintaining decorum can be a tough issue

In my opinion, if we look at the pros and cons of both the leadership, I will try to become a respected leader as it creates good bonding and interpersonal relation between the leaders and followers. This will create a friendly environment in which the employees can provide their best performance
