Characters in Midnight Cowboy, Klute and Sweet Sweetback's Baadassss Song are all sex workers. How is the figure of the sex worker used in each film to depict larger social issues?
Sex workers have long been condemned and treated differently in the society without examining the underlying reasons for their state. Women who are deprived of their livelihood in an unequal society that is dominated by the males and the social inequality that prevented the women from getting education, employment etc. has led to many women selling their bodies. The problem is that the male society for their indiscipline and uncontrolled sexual urges pay for having sex but it’s the women who are always blamed.
