You hang a very heavy weight from the end of a flimsy spring, the spring completely unwinds into a straight wire. You then hang twice as much weight to observe the resulting response. The spring remains a straight wire, but does not break.

Does the response of the spring follow or violate Hooke's law? explain in detail why.
