Question

QUESTION 14

Curious about ecological succession, you place plastic panels in the ocean near a dock in San Francisco Bay. You observe that over time the panels change from being dominated by colonial tunicates in the first few months to being dominated by solitary tunicates at the end of one year. You then perform an experiment in which you compare the abundance of late successional species (solitary tunicates) on panels from which the early successional species (colonial tunicates) have been removed (dashed line in figure below) to an unmanipulated control (solid line in figure). You obtain the following data:

Colonial tunicates removed Abundance of solitary tunicates Colonial tunicates present Time

From these data you conclude that:

Group of answer choices

a.)Solitary tunicates facilitate colonial tunicates

b.)Colonial tunicates facilitate solitary tunicates

c.)Solitary tunicates inhibit colonial tunicates

Answer #1

Please give a thumbs up.

In the given graph the abundance of solitary tunicates is almost the same in the beginning and then it gradually increased only when the colonial tunicates are removed.if the colonial toolkits are present the abundance of solitary tunicates did not increase at greater rate though there is increase in time. since the solitary tunicates only increased when there are no colonial tunicates this means that the colonial tunicates are inhibiting the solitary tunicates.

So the answer is option E
