Explain how building dams on rivers in the Pacific Northwest affect beaches along the Pacific Coast. Be specific
Building more and more dams on rivers has caused wiping off beaches along the coast of the pacific. this is due to several consequences mainly caused by man made exploitation.
sands are added and removed continuously from the beaches and these balance have to maintained for the beaches to be present. and the sands to the sea beaches are provided by rivers and streams and its own shorelines, but when huge dams are built across these sources , ( as the rivers travels hundreds of miles and brings along with it sands , sediments, pebbles , stones , etc) all the carried sands and sediments are deposited behind the dams and sands supply does not reach the beaches and sea.
so , this has resulted the erosion of sand beaches along the Pacific Coast, as the sand which were present on the beaches obstructed the waves from stretching inland, as the piled up sand were deposited along the coast by the to and fro motion of the waves. but since sand deposition rate have declined by the effect of building dams the erosion of sandy beaches have a huge impact on the people who came on weekends to enjoy along the beaches as well as the sea creatures.
