In terms of kidney function, what would be the consequences of the following physiological changes: (write consequences for each)
1) Elevated expression of UCP1 in renal mitochondria
2) Mutation causing no Aquaporin 2 expression
1) Elevated expression of UCP1; which separate oxidative phosphorylation from ATP synthesis by causing proton leak in mitochondria. Thus such in renal mitochondria will be having ATP only from substrate level phosphorylation in Glycolysis and TCA and no ATP synthesis at the electron transport chain level. This will lead to a disruption of the active transport of minerals and ions in kidney cells.
2) Mutation causing no Aquaporin 2 expression will hamper the reabsorption of water in the kidney connecting tubule and collecting duct

Section A – Answer only ONE question from this section 1. Explain the physiological concept of flow down gradients and illustrate your understanding by presenting three examples from at least two different body systems. In your answer include the terms gradient and resistance. 2. Explain the physiological concept of structure-function relationships (structure enables function) and illustrate your understanding by presenting three examples from at least two different body systems. Section B – Answer only ONE question from this section 3....
Reaction rate is expressed in terms of changes in the concentration of reactants and products. Write a balanced equation for the following rate expression: Rate = − (Δ[CH4]/Δt) = − 1/2 (Δ[O2]/Δt) = 1/2 (Δ[H2O]/Δt) = Δ[CO2]/Δt You do not need to include the states of matter in your answer.
Please write 1 paragraph for each of the following 1. Discuss a kidney disorder. 2. What is the course of treatment for this disorder? 3. What is the diet for this disorder? 4. Which lab values and/or electrolytes should be monitored in kidney disorders? 5. What is polysterene sulfonate?
The position of a vibrating object changes as a function of time as x=(0.20m)cos[(πs−1)t]. 1) Write an expression for the velocity as a function of time? Express your answer in meters per second in terms of t and the constant π. Express the coefficients using two significant figures.
What are the functions performed by the kidneys? B. In boxing, kidney punches are illegal. Where would a “kidney punch” be placed on the body? Why is it illegal? Which parts of the nephron and collecting system are located in the Cortex – Medulla – Trace the pathway of urine in the male from its formation in the renal corpuscle, through the nephron to the outside of the body, List all the structures in order that urine would pass through....

Thomas Stone is a 55-year-old banker who developed chronic kidney disease as a result of hypertension. His condition was dis- covered several years ago, when routine laboratory tests revealed function declines? elevated serum creatinine levels and persistent albuminuria. Since then, he has been taking antihypertensive medications and stage of disease, when kidney failure develops. Explain the restricting dietary sodium, but he reported difficulty following the low-protein diet that was also prescribed. Mr. Stone recently 3. Explain why a low-sodium, low-protein...
Caffeine use has been linked to many physiological changes, including changes in heart rate.
