Answer #1

C) 22,920 years,

This can be calculated by number of half lives passed.

here 1/16th is remaining, in the first half life 1/2th c-14 will be remaing,

When the second halflive is passed 1/4th C-14 will be remaining

When the third half life is passed 1/8thof C-14 will be remaining

When the fourth half life is passed 1/16th of C-14 will be remaing.

As per given data 1/16th of C-14 was remained , this says that 4 half lives were passed.

half life of C-14 is 5730 years.

Therefore 5730 X 4 = 22920 years.

Using Python 3... Question 4: Carbon dating (3 points) Archaeologists use the exponential, radioactive decay of carbon-14 to estimate the death dates of organic material. The stable form of carbon is carbon-12, and the radioactive isotope carbon-14 decays over time into nitrogen-14 and other particles. Carbon is naturally in all living organisms, and the carbon-14 that forms in the upper atmosphere enters into living things as long as they are taking in material (food, air, etc.) that contains carbon. We...

Some fossil bones containing 1/32 of their original amount of carbon-14 are found. How many half-lives have passed? How old are the bones? (HINT: The half-life of carbon-14 is 5,730 years. If 1/8 of the original amount of carbon-14 was present, 1/8 = 1/23 or 1/(2x2x2), therefore 3 half-lives would have passed and therefore, the bones would be 5,730 years x 3 = 17,190 years old)
