Hamilton steel company operates two 10-hours shifts each day. In the past, 600 steel valves were produced by the end of each day. The use of new production line has increased the productivity of the company by 25%. What is the new productivity of producing valves (expressed as valves per hour)?

Solution:

Number of working hours = (2 x 10-hours shifts each day) = 20 hours

Total production = 600 steel valves

Productivity is calculated as,

Productivity = Total production / Number of working hours

Productivity = 600 steel valves / 20 hours

Productivity = 30 valves per hour

Now, the productivity of the company is increased by 25%,

New total production = 600 + (25% of 600)

New total production = 750 steel valves

New Productivity = New Total production / Number of working hours

New Productivity = 750 steel valves / 20 hours

New Productivity = 37.50 valves per hour

New Productivity = 37.50
