In past lessons, we studied the database design process as we progressed from entity relationship diagrams through schemas. At this point in the design process, you would have a detailed physical schema created for a database. How would you approach converting your schema into a database, complete with sample data? Explain your approach in two to three paragraphs.

Answer:

Physical schema is where we translate the logical schemas into actual database structures. At this time, we represent each entity as a table and thier attributes as columns etc. The unique identifiers are considered as keys in the physical design. But, before converting our schema into database, we need to ensure that all user requirements are satisfied or not. Accordingly, we need to modify the schema. Also, check that there are no depandancies in the schema. If we observe any, we need to do normalization.

We should also check for redundancy of the data. Add necessary constraints such as referential integrity (RI) etc. to ensure the integriry of the system. We have to ensure that keys are providing uniqueness. We acn add indexes for the better and flexible access of database.

Once we are sure with the above constraints, we can build the database. We can optimize the construction by choosing better datastructure to store the data and better hardware and software.
