Fe will dissolve in 6M H+. What is the balanced equation and explain how you decided which iron ion is the product of this reaction.

The conc of 6M H+ represents the strength of the acid is very high, which means the Fe or iron present in the ground state will be oxidized and H+ in the excited state will reduce to H2 gas

Now Iron in the excited state exists in two configurations i.e. with +2 oxidation state and +3 oxidation state

Since the acid concentration is very strong implying that H+ content is very high, so the Fe will be oxidized to its fully potential finally yieldiing iron metal in the +3 oxidation state

Hence the balanced equation will be

Fe + 3H+ ----------- Fe(+3) + 1.5H2(g)
