Answer #1
  • Sign language does not represent spoken language. Because sign languages develop within deaf communities, they can be independent of the surrounding spoken language.Visual languages are more accessible, not only for people who are fully deaf, but for those who have a hearing loss as well.
  • What makes this language unique is that, storytelling is more engaging and detailed in visual languages. Because they are visual-spatial, signed languages are particularly adept at describing space and movement.
  • Another interesting thing that is found about people using sign language is that, deaf people who sign have been proven to be more “multilingual”. It was found that if you put two deaf people in a room, who have no shared language, it’s only a matter of hours before they find a way to communicate.
  • Because signed languages have shorter histories, their grammars typically share certain features, which means that even if two deaf people have no common vocabulary, it takes short time before they can figure out a way to communicate.
  • Often referred to as the “natural language of the deaf”, offers deaf people a sense of belonging and a positive identity.
  • And its not just beneficial for deaf people but normal people as well.People who use sign language, care more expressive and better listeners. When using a sign language, a person must engage in constant eye contact with the person who is speaking. Unlike spoken language, with sign languages a person cannot look away from the person speaking and continue to listen.
  • This can be an extremely beneficial habit to have for spoken language as well as sign language. By maintaining eye contact in spoken language, it shows that a person is genuinely interested in what the other is saying.
  • It can also help you have an important conversation in public.Thats quite useful for all of us.Sign languages can be a great way to gossip without anyone else knowing, and passing on confidential information.
  • Sign languages can be used when the spoken word is physically impossible, such as talking underwater, talking through glass, from a distance, at a loud music concert, and talking with your mouth full. Sign languages can also let you talk to someone without interrupting others with noise.
