Decentralisation of police forces is necessary to maintain a good law and order system. Reflecting on the article in Encyclopaedia Brittanica on Decentralized police systems in US, we talk about the concentration of police powers and centralisation affecting the potency of the forces. Local police should be provided with sufficient autonomy to investigate any local crime and make arrests without having to go through a central department.
In larger countries with number of states the state police forces report to a central authority .
