Charismatic or transformational leadership style is the
preferred leadership style in the context of bringing an
organizational change. Research made on several authentic
publications on leadership concludes that charismatic or
transformational leadership is the most effective and authentic
leadership style (William L.Gardner, Claudia C.Cogliser, Kelly
M.Davis, Matthew P.Dickens, 2011).
The strengths of this style lie in the charisma of the leader in
making the employees change in a celebration mood. This leader
makes change a process of celebration through concise values,
confidence and extroversion. The leader gets the full support of
the followers or employees by fulfilling their needs and motivating
them to bring change in the organization. One can capitalize on the
strengths of this leadership style through the inspirational
motivation of team members in building a shared vision of the
organization including the values of the company and employee
involvement. Another major way of capitalizing on the
transformational leadership style strengths is through fostering
innovation in the organization by encouraging the employees to come
out with new and creative ideas to build the organization as a
whole. Teamwork, adaptability, communication and trust are other
major strengths of this leadership style (Moo Jun Hao & Dr
Rashad Yazdanifard, 2015).
The main weakness of this style lies in the charisma of the leader
and hence measures must be taken to increase the charisma of the
leader to minimize the weakness of this leadership style.
Innovation and the need for a change give emergence to charismatic
leaders with the trait or capability of transforming an entire
organization according to the changes prevailing in the environment
or industry. A charismatic leader can improve their charisma by
being adaptable to changes in the environment. This adaptability of
the leader according to the changing situation is essential to stay
competitive in the industry and ensure organizational success.
