apply the law of conservation of momentum as mu = (m+M) V

V = 0.012* 300/(2+0.012)

V = 1.789 m/s

so

1. initial K E of the syystem   =     0.5 mv^2   + 0.5 MV^2

initial KE = (0.5*0.012 * 300*300) + (0.5 * 2 * `1.789 *1.789)

Iniitial KE = 543.2 Joules
