In a substitition reaction,one atom or the group of atoms in a substance is replaced by another atom or group of atoms from another substance.One such substitution reaction is reacting the hydrogen ion with methyl chloride.

CH3Cl+OH-------->CH3OH+Cl-

   Some reactions involve removal of adjacent atoms from molecules.It thereby forms multiple bonds and releases small molecules which is called elimination reaction.One such elimination reaction is conversion of ethyl chloride to ethylene.

CH3CH2Cl------>CH2=CH2+HCl
