CHEMISTRY HONORS PWS, Chapter 12.2 &12.4 IMFs NAME: PERIOD: 1. Determine the most important type of interparticle force (i.e. dispersion, dipole, hydrogen bond or ionic) present in each substance. . NH, hydrogen bond a. Xe dispersion d. co dipole b. KCI 1onic e. C12 dispersion - f. SrF21onic h. coli oln hydrogen i. HS dipole g. cio dispersion bond

Monoatomic molecules such as Xe and homonuclear diatomic molecules such as Cl2 have dispersion forces. Also hydrocarbons such as C4H10 have dispersion forces as there is no significant electronegativity difference between C and H. Polar molecules such as CO have dipole forces due to significant electronegativity diference between C and O. Hydrogen bonds are present in ammonia and ethanol molecules. Hydrogen bonds are formed when H atom is attached to electronegative N, O or F atom.
