Relief valves keep the pressure of a vessel from exceeding some threshold by opening to release fluid. You are designing a pressure relief valve with a 1,815 N/m spring pushing a 8 cm diameter disk against the open end of a pipe of the same diameter. The spring is compressed by 1 cm from its natural length. To test the valve you attach it to a static column of water. What position in cm do you expect the water column to be on the y-axis in order to open the valve?

spring relief disk 3. (40 pt.) A pressure cooker cooks a lot faster than an ordinary pan by maintaining a higher pressure and temperature inside. The lid of a pressure cooker is well sealed, and steam can escape only through an opening in the middle of the lid. The pressure relief valve consists of a spring-loaded disk that is positioned over this opening. Consider that a certain portion of a pressure cooker is initially filled with water and put on...

1/9 1 Piping system (14 points) Water is pumped from a reservoir to a large receiver vessel which is maintained at p4 6 bar (absolute) through the operation of the pump and a high pressure nitrogen supply that bleeds into the tank through a regulator. The water enters through an opening at the top of the vessel. A drain is provided at the low point in the system. Elevations are as shown. All valves are gate valves (k = 0.15)...
