1. What is the difference between turbofan and turbo-jet?
Turbojet
Turbofan
2. What is Sodium Mercury potassium plant?
Sodium and NaK (a eutectic sodium-potassium alloy) do not corrode steel to any significant degree and are compatible with many nuclear fuels, allowing for a wide choice of structural materials. They do, however, ignite spontaneously on contact with air and react violently with water, producing hydrogen gas. This was the case at the Monju Nuclear Power Plant in a 1995 accident and fire. Neutron activation of sodium also causes these liquids to become intensely radioactive during operation, though the half-life is short and therefore their radioactivity does not pose an additional disposal concern).
3. What is Thermo-Ionic Plant?
Thermionic Power Plant, is a device that convert heat directly into electricity using thermionic emission rather than first changing it to some other form of energy.
4. Compare between induced, natural, forced and balanced draught?
Induced draught: A mechanical draught re-cooling system with a fan at the discharge, which pulls air through the tower. The fan induces hot and wet air in combination with a wet cooling system.
Forced draught. A mechanical draught re-cooling system with a blower-type fan at the intake. The fan forces air into the system. A forced draft design typically requires more power than an equivalent induced draft design. In combination with a wet re-cooling system, the fan on the intake of the cooling tower is more susceptible to complications due to freezing conditions.
Natural draught: the draught produced by the atmosphere flowing, by its own weight, into a chimney wherein the air is rarefied by heat.
Balanced draught: When the static pressure is equal to the atmospheric pressure, the system is referred to as a balanced draft. Draught is said to be zero in this system.
5. How can we express the condenser performance?
Performance of the condenser is analyzed based on logarithmic mean temperature difference (LMTD) method.
