A certain automobile engine delivers 2.09 ✕ 104 W (28.0 hp) to its wheels when moving at a constant speed of 21.0 m/s (apx.gif 47 mi/h). What is the resistive force acting on the automobile at that speed?

Answer #1

here,

the engine power , P = 2.09 * 10^4 W

constant speed , v = 21 m/s

let the resistive force acting on the automobile at that speed be F

P = F * v

2.09 * 10^4 = F * 21

solving for F

F = 995.23 N

the resistive force acting on the automobile at that speed is 995.23 N
