What is a hotspot?

• To simply define Hotspot is nothing but a physical region where people can access internet by using Wi-Fi or via wireless local area network (WLAN).
• By using hotspot people can access internet wirelessly.
• Hotspot regions can be private or public. For example a coffee shop, an airport these or public hotspot locations. These public may offer free access or require payment.
• Mobile hotspot is a hotspot which is just in that—mobile. People can create a mobile hotspot by using their data connection.

How does AP(Acess point) communicate with others in a wireless network?

• Access point: Access point is nothing but a physical device which is allows devices to connect a network wirelessly. Wireless router is the real time example.
• Access points directly connects to the Wired Local Area network(WLAN) and provides internet to the devices using wireless connections.
• Access point acts as bridge between client device and Wired network.
• The association between client device and AP occurs when an adapter is turned on.
• The adapter in client device immediately begins scanning the wireless frequencies for access points. The adapter in client device switches to the assigned channel of the selected wireless access point.
• Once the association process completes, authentication process will start. On most of the access points authentication is shared key authentication or open authentication.
• If it is an Open authentication it permits access with only the SSID. If it is shared key mode, the client must meet security requirements.
• After entering required credentials, IP-level communication will be established.
• After that, the wireless standards create the physical link and allowing client device protocols to use the link.
