Functionalists argue that stratification is universal and that social inequality is necessary so that people will be motivated to fill functionally important positions (i.e. doctors, lawyers, professors, etc.). These positions require a lot of specialized and expensive education but are higher paying and have better benefits. Some sociologists argue that this perspective fails to acknowledge the contribution and social function that less prestigious jobs have on society. Choose one of the lower prestige jobs on the occupational prestige chart provided in the PowerPoint presentation for this week and try to explain the function that this occupation has in society. Ask yourself the following questions: Do the workers perform duties that are al for the smooth functioning of day to day life? In society teachers have to perform very important duty. They are really essential part of the society. But the teachers are not so earnest to perform their duty, They are not so attentive to do their functions. they neglect their duty. They do not take the responsibility of the students. The students are deprived of their rights. they fail to maintain proper development of the students. It is also a national loss. Mainly the children of the poor family are greatly sufferer as they can not provide extra backup for their child. The smooth function of the education system gets hampered. The goal of the education system is not maintained properly.

The same negligence also appears in the professions of doctors, lawyers, police authority, soldiers etc.

If the workers are determined to do their proper duty then there will be revolutionary change in the society. The whole system will be changed. There will be no discrimination in the society. All the people will get the benefit of this. In the whole world third state will be foremost and most advanced. There will not be no corruption and malpractice.
