Why do males become significantly faster around the age of 15?
At the age of around 15 years, growth spurt occurs in males. In response to the growing levels of the hormone testosterone, the following changes occur in males:
* There is no change in hip size, but the shoulder broaden
* Muscle mass increases and the amount of fat decreases considerable
* The angle of the legs is oriented outwards with the onset of puberty
The broad shoulder provide better support during gait. The outward angles legs helps males to move faster than the females. The increased protein mass enables them to perform for a longer time, and run faster.
