A catalyst is a foreign substance in the reaction (other than the reactants) which alters the rate of reaction without itself undergoing any chemical change.

The catalyst increases the rate of reaction by providing an alternate path for the reaction which requires less activation energy than previously required.

Also as the catalyst doesn't undergo any chemical change its not a part of chemical equation.

Hence the given statement is true.
