if an article mentions that the number 73,733 includes only true cases. What does this mean and how is it determined?
This is for an epidemiology course. I could not find a course that fits that description.
It means that only the total of 73,733 would be affected by certain disease among the overall population rate. This can be determined by taking surveys on number of people being affected by the disease, in order to separate them from other unaffected people ,to stop the spreading of disease and to well treat the true cases by providing proper medication and care. These surveys are taken to study the impact of disease , causative agent, their action on the host ,their incubation period ,time taken for recovery ,which drug is suitable to cure the disease and the mechanism of action of the drugs , etc.. are compiled together as an article and published in journals which can be referred later in times of needs during researches.
