Answer #1

The correct order from the largest to the smallest is the last option:

Genome; Chromosome; gene; triplet; nucleotide; nitrogenous base; nitrogen

A nitrogenous base is a molecule containing nitrogen. The nitrogenous bases that form the structure of DNA are Adenine, Guanine, Thymine and Cytosine. In the case of RNA, the nitrogenous base Thymine is replaced by Uracil. A nucleotide comprises a nitrogenous base, a ribose or a de-oxy ribose sugar (depending upon whether it is a DNA or an RNA) and one or more phosphate groups. Three such nucleotides in the mRNA form what is known as the triplet which code for an amino acid, which is synthesized during translation. A particular region of DNA that includes a promoter, coding and non-coding sequences all put together that code for a particualr protein is termed a gene. each gene is located in a loci of a chromosome and several such chromosomes are part of the entire set of DNA of an organism known as its genome.

ΦC31 is a type of bacteriophage that infects Streptomyces bacteria. One gene in the bacteriophage genome specifies a recombinase called ΦC31 integrase that works through a mechanism slightly different from that of the recombinase shown in Fig. 6.30. Most importantly, the two target DNA sequences are different from each other. One called attP is 39 base pairs and is found on the circular bacteriophage chromosome, while the other—attB—is 34 base pairs long and is located on the much larger circular...
