Obviously moisture content in soil affects how far a worm can dig.
Independent variables are those which directly or indirectly plays no role affecting a certain thing; whereas dependent variables are directly related affecting a certain thing, and controlled thing are those which can be taken into consideration whenever required.
a. Independent variables- natural vegetation, concentration of some ions, etc.
b. Dependent variables- soil pH, organic matter content, soil porosity, moisture content, temperature, soil type, etc.
c. Controlled variables- external water supply, scientific method of farming, proper ways to irrigate the field, prevention of runoffs discharge effluents from industries, application of biofertilizers, organic farming, etc.
A worm generally lives in moist soil having a good moisture content with optimum pH and it helps to make the land fertile by the deposition of organic matter of soil in the form of humus. So it is also called "Nature's ploughman".
