27. Sinoatrial node
28. Atrioventricular node
29. Bundle of His
30. Left and right bundle branches
31. Purkinje fibres/cells
Located on the outer layer of the right atrium, the SA node (bundle of nerve cells) undersgoes spontaneous depolarization (contraction) to generate an action potential. The conducting tissue, also known as the AV node receives this action potential and passes it on through the bundle of His, then the left and right bundle branches and then the Purkinje fibres. All these tissues cause the contraction (depolarization) of the ventricular muscle cells.

Question 9 (1 point) The correct sequence in the conduction system of the heart is 1) Purkinje fibers, AV bundle, bundle branches. 2) AV node, SA node, Purkinje fibers. 3) SA node, AV node, AV bundle, bundle branches, Purkinje fibers. 4) AV node, bundle branches, SA node, Purkinje fibers. Question 10 (1 point) A heart rate below 60 beats per minute is called 1) tachycardia. 2) fibrillation. 3) bradycardia. 4) ectopic.

a) Why do the fast-Na+ channels not play a significant role in the upstroke of the SA-node action potential? b) If you assume the nominal length from the AV-node to the apex (bottom) of the ventricles is about 10 cm, estimate the time it would take for excitation to travel: i) from the AV- node to the apex, and ii) from the apex to the base (top), assuming there were no specialized conduction cells (i.e. the left and right bundle...

NAME SID__ 31. Which of the following is a correct statement when comparing Open Circulatory Systems and Closed Circulatory Systems? a. Open Circulatory Systems generally require MORE energy to operate, since it is less efficient to circulate the entire amount of interstitial fluid in the body cavity. 8. Arthropods and Insects generally use a Closed Circulatory System, while vertebrates generally use an Open Circulatory System Both systems utilize some form of the following three components: (1) circulatory fluid, (2) vessels...
