Teratogens are the chemical compounds which produces defects in human foetus or embryo when exposed to such compounds. these compounds are essentially drugs used for treatment of various diseases but were later found to have many side effects after which many countries banned their usage. The risk produced by these compounds depends on the dosage of the substance, exposure duration and the developmental stage of the foetus.

As asked in the question, Thalidomide is used to treat no. of cancers like multiple myeloma, skin disease like leprosy. the main side effect of this substance is that the babies produced have stunted or malformed limbs.

Tobacco is not associated with cancers of the reproductive organs.

Diethystilbestrol (DES) is a synthetic form of Oestrogen which was recommended to females to prevent premature abortion. However it was later found to produce cervical cancers in females and genital cancers in boys.

methyl mercury has the effect on brain by acting as neurotoxicant
