Answer #1

9) cell membrane thickness is 75A

Ans we assume that transmembrane protein is made up of \alpha helical protein

So in one turn of \alpha helical protein length is 5.4A

So to pass 75A of membrane 5.4x75A=13.88 turn required

And in 1 turn of \alpha helical protein reside 3.6 amino acids

So in 13.88 turn of \alpha helical turn total no. Of amino acid will be 13.88x 3.46=50 residue

So 50 residue required to pass the thickness of cell membrane which start from residue 55 and goes till 55+ 50=105 amino acids long

17) mebrane protein constrain occur to unlike interection as protein is made up of mostly polar and hydrophilic molecule while cell membrane is made up of non polar hydrophobic molecule. So this unfavourable interection make constrain in movement of protein either lateral or transverse movement.

This is important do that there could stability is sea of lipids and also these protein could act as transmembrane protein which allow movement of molecule from outside to inside.

Hope it's clear..thanks

pls try expaling this concept in as much detail as possible . this is all the informetion i eqs given to anserw the question myself Hydropathy plots are a measure of the hydrophobicity of a protein. The free energy for transferring an amino acid in a protein from the membrane to water is plotted as a function of the position of the helix in the sequence in the protein. Numbers greeter than +84 kJ/mol on a hydropathy plot are indicative...

Hydropathy analysis of a membrane protein's amino acid sequence predicts the protein's transmembrane segments and orientation in the membrane. It is necessary to confirm those predictions with experimental analysis. One experimental approach for plasma membrane proteins is to use the protease trypsin to digest extracellular domains of these proteins. (Trypsin is hydrophilic and cannot cross the plasma membrane to enter the cell.) When added to cells, trypsin digests the hydrophilic portions of plasma membrane proteins exposed outside the cell into...

QUESTION 9 Sequence analysis of a membrane protein shows four 20 amino acid long stretches of residues that are predominantly hydrophobic Between each of these stretches of hydrodophobic residues, a stretch of predominantly hydrophilic residues is found. From this observation one can reasonably postulate that: A this is a 4 stranded beta barrel which spans the membrane B.this is a glycoprotein o this protein has 4 alpha helical segments that span the membrane o this protein can be removed from...

please answer all that you can 1. You have genetically engineered green fluorescent protein (GFP) containing a KDEL sequence (GFP-KDEL). When GFP-KDEL is expressed in normal human fibroblasts and examined using fluorescence microscopy, the fluorescence appears diffuse across the cytoplasm. How would you explain this observations given that KDEL is supposed to be an ER-specific sorting sequence? A. This engineered GFP would not have a hydrophobic signal sequence to get it into the RER in the first place. B. The...
