Why are LDL low density lipoproteins considered to be the "bad" cholesterol relative to the high density lipoprotein particles?

Answer #1

The answer is B.

explanation

The major difference b/w low density lipoproteins & high density lipoproteins is the composition. About 50% of the weight of low density lipoprotein particle constitutes 50% cholesterol & just 25% is protein. Whereas, HDL particles, has just 20% cholesterol & 50% protein. As we know that proteins are denser than fat, high density lipoproteins are denser than low density lipoproteins.

hope the answer helps.

LDL - low density lipoprotien - cholesterol is considered the bad cholesterol. A pharmaceutical company conducts a clinical trial on people with high levels of LDL cholesterol. The trial involves a random sample of n=14 persons who have high levels of LDL. Each person has their LDL level measured prior to the beginning of the drug trial. Each person is then to take a new drug that is believed to lower ones LDL levels. After a period of 4-weeks, the...

Identify the statements that are true about LDL and HDL. HDL is smaller than LDL. Low levels of LDLs together with high levels of HDLs are associated with heart disease. HDL removes cholesterol from the bloodstream. HDL is more dense than LDL. LDL has a higher lipid content than HDL. HDL is considered to be "bad cholesterol."

Which of the following statements about the lipoproteins given in the introduction are true? Check all that apply. A- Lipoproteins are complexes of lipids and proteins. B- Lipoproteins can be distinguished by their densities and composition. C- Lipoprotein densities increase in the following order: chylomicrons, VLDLs, LDLs, HDLs, IDLs. D- Chylomicrons are the only lipoproteins that exclusively carry dietary lipids. E- HDL has a high lipid-to-protein ratio. HDL is termed "bad" cholesterol because it can deposit excess cholesterol in the...

Fenofibrate, a benzophenone derivative, has been used until recently to lower triglycerides and low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol, thus increasing high-density lipoproteins (HDLs). Starting from benzene and any other necessary reagents, complete the two-step synthesis of the fenofibrate analogue shown below by dragging the appropriate compound(s) into the boxes. Only one set of reagents will fit into each box and not all compounds will be used. (Scroll down to see all the reagents.)
