Answer #1

TUBE

SUBSTANCE TESTED

FINAL COLOR

TEST RESULTS (+ or -)

IF POSITIVE, name the reducing sugar

A

Starch *without* saliva

Clear blue

-

no reducing sugar

B

Starch *with* saliva

Thick yellow

+

maltose

starch is macromolecule composed of glucose when we add saliva in to tube then the enzyme present in saliva called amylase  hydrolyse starch and convert it into maltose (composed of 2 glucose molecule) and maltose is reducing sugar and in presence reducing sugars of Benedict’s reagent, blue solution become thick yellow.

KamasehGbeanquoi LO5 ChemLife - Word w View Tell me what you want to do There are other types of reagents used to determine what type of biomolecule a substance is. For example, copper ions present in Benedict's reagent reacts with the free end of any reducing sugars, such as glucose, when heated. Originally blue in color, these copper ions are reduced by the sugar, and produce an orange-red colored precipitate. Alternatively, iodine-potassium iodide (KI) may also be used when working...

Question 3 A Amylase is a protein that catalyzes the conversion of starch to simple sugars. Amylase activity in an aqueous solution can be measured by using iodine as a starch indicator. A solution containing iodine and starch will have a dark blue color, whereas a solution containing iodine but no starch will have a light brown color. The color change of an iodine solution from dark blue to light brown can be used to measure the rate at which...

please help me with this experiment??? Enzymes Experiment 1: Enzymes in Food Amylase is used by humans to facilitate digestion. Specifically, it is an enzyme that breaks down starch molecules into sugar molecules. This is why people sometimes observe a sweet taste after sucking on a starch-containing food for an extended period of time. Amylase is found naturally in human saliva and the pancreas. However, it is also present in some of the common plant foods consumed by humans. This...
