Answer #1

Life tables are of two types.

1. Static Life table: shows the current probability of death

2. Cohort life table: shows the probability of death over the course of their lifetime.

So when we need the mortality rate of a period of time (1-2 years) we prefer a static life table.

When we need an overall mortality rate of a population's entire lifetime, we use a cohort life table.

Stochastic Population Growth Model Next, we are going to monitor the population growth of an asexually reproducing single-celled organism, centinia lincolni (pennies). This Centina population has a mortality rate of 50% per year, but all individuals that survive the year divide to produce an additional individual. The very most basic growth model of a closed population is: N+ N-deaths births Rewritten to use rates instead of individuals, this equation becomes: N+ -N,S+N.BS where S is the probability of survival (0.5)...

Describe cohort, static, and age distribution life tables. Which are most commonly used and why? How could life table data, in combination with a fecundity schedule, be used to determine the per capita rate of increase (r) of a population exhibiting iteroparity? You must describe, step by step, how you would take hypothetical data from a raw table of survivorship and age specific fertility rates to the per capita rate of increase.
