Answer #1

EMP pathway is amphibolic i.e. both catabolic and anabolic processes are occurring together. Anabolic precursors are those intermediate compounds from where other molecules are synthesized by using the energy. In EMP pathway, three compounds are anabolic precursors. These are:

I) Dihydroxyacetonephosphate (DHAP)

ii) Glyceraldehyde 3-phosphate

iii) Pyruvate

The fate of DHAP is to synthesize lipids . DHAP is precursor to 2-oxopropanal.

Glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate lead to the formation of vitamin B6.

Pyruvate is the biosynthetic precursor of certain amino acids like alanine.

Metabolic Pathway Engineering Problem Set 5 Engineering a Fermentation System: Fermentation of plant matter to produce ethanol for fuel is one potential method for reducing the use of fossil fuels and thus the CO2 emissions that lead to global warming. Many microorganisms can break down cellulose then ferment the glucose to ethanol. However, many potential cellulose sources, including agricultural residues and switchgrass, also contain substantial amounts of arabinose, which is not as easily fermented. Escherichia coli is capable of fermenting...
