Answer #1

a. Rec BCD is an enzyme complex in E. coli and is required for DNA double strand break repair and homologous recombination. Rec BCD enzyme has both helicase and nuclease activity. Rec B subunit has both helicase and nuclease activity, Rec C subunit recognises chi sequences and Rec D subunit also has helicase activity. Mutation in Rec BCD would affect double strand repair in E. coli and homologous recombination. Rec BCD mutants will be Radiation sensitive and have low viability and altered transformation.

b. Ruv C is an nuclease which cleaves the Holliday junction in genetic recombination. Ruv C mutation would cause defects in chromosomes segregation and cell division.

c. Rec A is a bacterial protein that helps in DNA repair. It has DNA strand exchange activity and helps in recombinational repair and it also regulate SOS gene expression. Rec A mutation would affect recombinational repair and SOS gene expression.
