Ans) The first thing to know about the infectious disease is the causative agent and their characteristics (like Gram positive,Gram negative,Endospore forming,Acid fast, etc) and to inverstigate whether the causative agent is bacteria, fungi, parasite or virus. It can be found out using variety of tests like growing the infected samples on the culture plates to find out the pathogenic bacterial strain, fungi etc and then the particular antibiotic can be prescribed to the patient by the doctor (Antibiotics dont work in viral infection). The second important thing is to know the window period of the causative agent so that the infection can be controlled by quarantine and social distancing to prevent healthy individuals to become infected.Regular use of Masks should be done in order to avoid the infection if there is respiratory virus outbreak like the recent Coronavirus novel strain COVID-19. If there is infectious skin disease outbreak like by Staphylococus aureus, social distancing is the solution and using hand sanitizers and to cover wounds with the antiseptic agents (Staphylococcus aureus is more prone to infect open wounds). During such outbreaks, WHO will ensure that there is sufficient health services available in such emergency conditions (enough blood in blood banks, enough oxygen cylinders, enough space in the hospitals to treat severals of patients etc). Using this information and implementing it properly can reduce the risk during such outbreaks and eventually eliminate the risk completely.
